In a strange and bizarre twist of fate Ripley himself would have appreciated, he collapsed in 1949while making the 13th episode of his life weekly television series.The segment was a dramatized sequence on the origin of "Taps"-a hauntingly sad tune played at military funerals.Ripley died two days later and was buried in his hometown of Santa Rosa,California,in a place called Oddfellows Cemetery.
